Sheet piling as a foundation
Sheet piling is one of the most central methods in foundation and construction. The technique is used to stabilize and secure shafts, which is crucial when building foundations for buildings, bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure. A well-executed sheet piling creates safe working conditions, protects the environment and lays the foundation for a stable and sustainable end result.
What is tongue and groove?
Sheet piling involves driving a support structure into the ground to create a barrier against soil and water. By driving, vibrating or drilling sheet piling profiles made of steel, wood or concrete, a wall is formed that keeps the shaft open and prevents collapse, landslides and erosion. This allows work to be carried out safely even in deep or difficult shafts.

Versatile method for many projects
Sheet piling is a flexible method that can be adapted to ground conditions and project requirements.
It is used, among other things, for:
Deep basements , where the foundation is crucial for the stability of the building and the sheet piling enables safe construction even under demanding conditions.
Tunnel construction , where the sheet pile counteracts ground movements and ensures the integrity of the structure.
Bridge supports and ports , where a stable and safe foundation is a prerequisite for the entire facility.
A punched sheet pile offers several clear advantages. It has a long service life and good resistance to corrosion, making it suitable for harsh environments and varying weather conditions.
The design can be adapted to different shapes, sizes and ground conditions, and installation is quick compared to many other methods, saving both time and costs.
In addition, the steel is recyclable, making the sheet pile a sustainable choice where materials can be reused and waste is minimized over time.

Sheet pile variants
Tight sheet piles, or other tight screens, are used when you want to prevent groundwater flow, for example to lower the groundwater pressure under a shaft bottom. Steel profiles that are hammered or vibrated down into interlocking positions form a tight and strong sheet pile wall that holds all the way down to the sheet pile foot under the shaft bottom.
When it is difficult to install a tight sheet pile, for example in blocky soil, a glass sheet pile is often used. It is built by driving, vibrating or drilling down pipes or other steel profiles. During the excavation process, the soil is gradually supported in the spaces between the profiles with plates, boards or shotcrete. Unlike a tight sheet pile, a glass sheet pile cannot seal against groundwater below the bottom of the excavation.
In addition to the above, there are a number of other support structures that may be relevant depending on the project, such as secant pile walls, slot walls, wooden sheet piles, plastic sheet piles, sheet pile cassettes and excavation sleds.
